September Mom of the Month: Kee
What is the best part about being a mom?
Getting to grow with your child. Every stage is a different experience and brings on new things. You never have experienced the next stage so when it comes it’s exciting and new.
What do you find challenging about motherhood?
Communication with my child and trying to talk to him about things he may do wrong. Instead of yelling and fussing, I'm working on trying to calmly explain to him what he did wrong and how to be better. From experience the way we talk to our children can affect how they are during the school day and beyond.
What’s one thing you had to overcome with being a mother?
Not having a lot of support and I don’t mean financially. But just being able to have a peace of mind some days and to get a break. My mom passed away when my son was young, and even when she was here, I always felt like I didn’t have a shoulder to lean on with her. Even though she was a great mom to me, I needed some extra support while raising my son. I had my sister and cousin to help, but they had young kids of their own, so that part was a lot for me when my son was younger.
What’s something that’s important to you?
Setting up financial support for my son so he is successful and not have to work so hard for things that he may need as he grows. I want him to be able to have a car, money to start a business or go to college at age 18. My son will not struggle to get where he needs to be.
How has balancing everything during a pandemic been?
Definitely challenging. I struggle with having patience and school was my outlet to allow him to go to school and I could get a break. But when school shut down and I had him home while working and helping him with his work was hard. My patience was tested through the entire pandemic. I am now learning to react calmly and now things are better.
What inspires you to be the best mom you can be?
My mom. She was always the type of mom that always wanted the best for us. It was always my kids, my kids. She always made a way for us. I take the importance of finances and credit she has taught me and try to teach my son.
What will you tell your son about how to be optimistic in today’s world?
Being honest and instilling in him the value of being honest and being his true self. No matter what anyone else has or is doing, remain true to who you are. And to always respect women!
What are 3 things you can’t live without?
My son, self care and being organized!
What would you do if you have 3 hours of no responsibilities?
Lay in the bed the entire time!
What’s one thing you wish another mom would have told you about motherhood?
That there’s no perfect way to be a mother, you embark on it the way you see fit and do the best that you can.
