Meet Our First Mom of the Month: Tashana
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Tashana Frink and I’ve been teaching in Baltimore City for 8 years, currently teaching 4th grade. I just started a tutoring business that specializes in reading and math and I have a 16 month old son named Kai. If you’re looking for a tutor for your child, please email me at TashanasTutoringProgram@gmail.com.
What is the best part about being a mom?
I believe the best part is being able to see important milestones in your child’s life. For example, seeing them walk for the first time, smile, and say their first words. I especially love being able to see my child learn to comprehend and follow directions.
What do you find challenging about motherhood?
The challenging part is trying to remain organized and balance out being a mom, wife, teacher, and business owner. Finding a perfect balance is sometimes extremely difficult. Sometimes you feel guilty not being able to dedicate your full potential to just being a mom.
How has balancing everything during a pandemic been?
I feel like in the beginning of the pandemic it was a little rough, because it was something new for everyone. Now that my son is in a daycare, it has helped out a lot. Organization has gotten better, and we stick to routine with dinner, bath time, homework, and play time.
What inspires you to be the best mom you can be?
My son inspires me, and my parents. I always ask my parents a lot of questions. So my parents, Kai and talking to other moms inspire me to be the best mom I can be.
What will you tell your son about how to be optimistic in today’s world?
I will tell him to stay true to himself, be a good person, and get the best education that you can get. Follow your dreams, fight for what you believe in, and stay focused. As a black man, you can do all these things and still fall victim to the craziness in this world.
What are 3 things you can’t live without?
TV, Kai and Pizza
What would you do if you have 3 hours of no responsibilities?
Sleep!
What’s one thing you wish another mom would have told you about motherhood?
The afterbirth! To me afterbirth was worse than labor!
