February Mom of the Month: Alonna

Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Alonna, a lot of people know me as Alonna Gordon, but I am Mrs. Alonna Davis. I’m coming up on four years of marriage and I’m turning 34 soon. I’m a mom of a 18 month little girl named Zoey and I have a bonus son who is 6. And I’m a full time realtor.

What is the best part about being a mom?

I love watching my daughter grow, and how she responds to people and her growing vocabulary. It’s like she changed overnight. Being a mom of a little girl is like having a default bestfriend. We are both foodies, so we love food and will both try anything. She even helps me cook and bake cupcakes and we love watching TV together.

What do you find challenging about motherhood?

Trying to make time for myself. I used to love working out and waking up in the morning and going to the gym. Since Zoey was born, I have been to the gym 3 times. Another challenging part of motherhood is feeling like I need to know everything upfront. I need to begin to feel comfortable about learning as I go and things not always falling into place the way I think they should.

What’s one thing you had to overcome with being a mother?

Not wanting to ask for help. I love to help others, but I don’t often look for help from others. But I’m learning to slowly ask for help, so I don’t burn myself out.

What’s something that’s important to you?

Making sure Zoey has all the experiences I had as a child, plus more. I enjoyed traveling out of the country at a young age, and I want all those things for my daughter. I want her to experience life, and many traditions that I had growing up.

How has balancing everything during a pandemic been?

There’s no true method, I have been figuring it out as we go. I sometimes feel like I’m going to crash, but I just have to make it happen. I don’t make excuses, I rather just try and make it work. Some days I know I need to rest, but I just push through and think past the fact that we are in a pandemic.

What inspires you to be the best mom you can be?

Being able to provide for my daughter and give her all the things she needs. To be an example for her, and for her to see how she can be independent and be her own person. Her being able to take care of herself, but also leaning on others when needed.

What will you tell your daughter about how to be optimistic in today’s world?

I would tell her to stay focused and optimistic and always be yourself. Everything around you will continue to change and to adopt with it. Be true to yourself and focus on the now. Instead of focusing so much planning on tomorrow and the future, be very present with TODAY. Value your friends and family.

What are 3 things you can’t live without?

My phone, because I’m a realtor and I need my phone at all times. TV is my thing too. And I need my naps in order to function during the day and rest my body.

What would you do if you have 3 hours of no responsibilities?

I would go to the gym, because I need to get back into that rhythm.

What’s one thing you wish another mom would have told you about motherhood?

I got a lot of advice from other moms before I had the baby. I wish once I had her, more advice continued, especially around breastfeeding. Now that the baby is here, I would love to continue to have more conversations around motherhood.
