No Spend September
We’re back with another No Spend September (NSS) or Stacktember as we like to call it. I have given you all the info needed for the challenge and what you can and can NOT buy and spend.
This is a good time to reset your spending habits, stack some money real quick, or even prepare a budget or some savings for holiday shopping. Let’s consider this a “spending detox” and a time to cleanse yourself of your bad money habits! It’s a great way to join in with others who have the same goal and make it FUN!
Here’s some tips to help you be successful for our No Spend Challenge:
First, determine your goal. Why are you doing the challenge? To save money? To pay some bills you’re behind on? To save for a vacation? Or maybe it’s just to adjust your spending habits because you lost your mind.🥴
Plan meals and your weekly schedule ahead of time and each week. Unorganized people spend more money because they don’t have a plan or schedule.
Do things that don’t cost money. You can still have fun with your kids or do date night, but be creative. Go to the park, take a walk around a new neighborhood.
Consider all the items you have that reoccur every month. Things like your mortgage or rent, cell phone bill, Internet, groceries and car insurance. These items are things you know you have to buy or pay, so they’re safe. Write them down and total the entire amount so you know how much you’re at least guaranteed to spend for those areas.
Food/groceries, let’s talk about food. Food can mean so many different things to everyone. But here, we can’t eat out, so no restaurants or fast food. But even in the grocery store, the goal is to cut back, so let’s skip expensive food items like lamb or seafood. And we’re def skipping Door Dash, Uber Eats and everything of the like.
Shop your pantry and freezer for items you can cook, to avoid spending so much at the grocery store.
Grab a partner to do this with! It’s always fun with someone else and to help encourage you as you go along. Get your family on board too. Have a good conversation with your spouse and kids, even kids can understand the simple principles of money management.
Good luck, and follow along for tips in my IG stories and #FinanceFriday posts, where I will post finance tips for success every Friday.
