What’s in My Hospital Bag?

What’s in my hospital bag? Here’s a list of necessary items to pack that you’ll need after you deliver your bundle of joy!

The hospital will give you a ton of stuff you don’t need to pack like sanitary pads (I liked the hospital pads better than Always), pacifiers, wipes and diapers for baby. Really they give you everything you need for baby besides go home clothes.

Tip 1: Pack your hospital bag about a month before your due date.

Tip 2: You’ll only be there 2-3 days, pack necessities only. But enough stuff to make you comfortable during your stay. Also, don’t pack too much, because you want to leave room for all the FREE stuff the hospital will give you.

Tip 3: I don’t bring slippers because I would probably throw them away afterwards, and the hospital socks worked great.

Tip 4: Due to COVID, pack a reliable mask, Lysol, maybe some Clorox wipes.🧽

-Birth Plan: Good to have printed and given to or posted in your hospital room so the staff fully understands your needs and wants. Do you want baby to have a pacifier? What do you want to do with the placenta? And much more!

-Toiletries: Your normal everyday toiletries (body wash, lotion, deodorant, etc.) Note: you won’t be able to shower until a day after delivery.

-Face Wipes: Great for easily wiping your face after delivery or whenever you want to freshen up.

-Lip Balm: Hospitals can be very dry, and as you’re constantly breathing heavy during labor, lip balm comes in handy.

-Nursing Pads: Needed for leaky boobs whether you plan to breastfeed or not.

-Nipple Cream: Good to relieve nipple pain after birth.

-Makeup: Duh sis, be photo ready!

-Hair Tie: Needed for tying your hair back during labor and delivery.

-Shower Shoes: Touching the floors of a shower that’s not your own.... ewwww MRSA and Staph Infection.

-Towel & Wash Cloths: For shower and freshening up. I order a cheap pack of wash cloths and a towel from Target and just throw it away in the hospital.

-Insurance Card, ID, and Credit Card: Needed to pay for health care services, photos you can purchase, and to prove your identity.

-Maternity Bras: Provides easy access for baby to breastfeed and to secure your nipple pads. I also use a sleeper maternity bra for comfort during sleeping.

-Comfortable Go Home Clothes: Your stomach will still look about 6 months pregnant after baby is delivered, so loose fitting clothes is best.

-A Robe: Easy for being in the hospital room, and making you feel a little normal after delivery. Also provides easy access to breastfeed baby, if you plan to.

-Night Gowns: Comfortable night gowns for the hospital make sleeping and lounging around easy. You don’t need many, maybe 2.

-Dark or Disposable Underwear: Let’s face it, a whole body is coming out of you, so think blood and lots of it. Pack extra underwear or even wear disposable ones you can throw away. The hospital will give you disposable ones as well.

-Snacks & Gum: Sitting in the hospital all day and night, you may want a snack here and there, pack a few snacks for both mom and dad. And have some cash on you for the vending machine too. The hospital
provides all the drinks you need though lol

-Throw Blanket: I rather have a throw blanket of my own to snuggle under vs the hospital blankets, makes me feel a little at home. Don’t forget one for dad as well.

-Room Fragrance Spray: Freshens the stale hospital room up a bit and can also boost your mood, think the smell of candles without having to burn one.

-Cell Phone Charger: A long cord cell charger is needed as many outlets may not be as close to your hospital bed. And we can’t let the phone die, so we can take plenty of pics of baby and during these COVID times, FaceTime our loves ones since most hospitals have a no visitor policy.
